If you opened your own business, what would it be?

Almost eight years ago my husband Tom and I opened our in-home care
agency, Caring Hearts Home Care. We have an exceptional team of
caregivers who go into our clients’ homes to provide companionship
and help them with anything they may need to stay safe, comfortable
and happy at home. We feel very fortunate to be able to provide a
service that truly helps our clients and provides peace of mind for their
family members.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t worry about things that you can’t control. When trying to decide which path to take, make the best educated decision you can with the information
you have…and most importantly, if you make the wrong decision, it’s
never too late to right your path.

Exceptional Skills-

I think I’m a pretty good problem solver. For the most part, I stay calm under pressure. I’m also a good communicator and have learned how to have difficult conversations without letting myself get overly stressed about it.

All that makes me sound so serious – I do like to have fun too!

What makes you feel fulfilled?

I love spending time with my husband and three boys. Our youngest son is a junior at Valley so we’re savoring every moment before he leaves us! Our two oldest boys are in college, one at Iowa State and the other at the School of
the Art Institute of Chicago. Since we can’t all be together as often
now, it makes the times we are together extra special. There is
nothing more fulfilling than seeing my boys grow into genuinely good
people.

Running our company and knowing that we are making a difference in our clients’ lives is pretty fulfilling as well!

When asked to describe yourself, what’s the first word that pops into your mind? – Determined and a “doer”.

Favorite book

Unfortunately I don’t take time to read a lot these days. I’d much rather talk about music! I love singing along to the radio in my car and going to concerts with my girlfriends!

What makes your heart race?

My son Will is a freshman at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Last year while working on his portfolio to submit to art schools, Will spent countless hours painting at his easel. As often as I could I would hang out with him while he
created his art. Will’s music would be blasting while he worked, and we would sing along to The Beatles and Portugal. The Man. Those are wonderful memories I will have forever. Watching Will do something that he absolutely loves and seeing him work so hard to achieve his goals made my heart race then and it still does now.

Organization or cause near to your heart-

For the past several years I have volunteered for the Chrysalis Foundation. Chrysalis is an organization that works to empower and improve the lives of women and girls in our community. They offer after school programs for young
girls and provide grants to other non-profits that also support girls and
young women.

What are you interested in connecting with other women about?
I have no sisters or daughters, so my relationships with my girlfriends
mean so much to me! Good female friendships where we can support
and encourage each other as we navigate life is something to treasure! Every woman has her own unique story and set of experiences; I appreciate and enjoy getting to know women at that level.
