If you opened your own business, what would it be? I am fortunate to be my own boss and doing work that I not only enjoy, but that is also a good use of my skillset. But if I had more money and more time, I would love to remodel old houses. I love seeing older outdated spaces refreshed and made new again. I’m a sucker for a good “before and after” photo of a home renovation.
What advice would you give your younger self? – Look for more opportunities to give and spread kindness. Brightening someone else’s day is the easiest way to turn yours around when it’s not going well or you are feeling down.
Exceptional Skills- I’ve always enjoyed math and working with numbers (my earliest memories of church include counting the wood beams, lights, organ pipes, etc...) But I’m also a pretty talented photographer and photo editor.
What makes you feel fulfilled? Checking items off a “to-do” list. Spending quality time with my family and close friends. Lifting up and championing others.
When asked to describe yourself, what’s the first word that pops into your mind? Tough Favorite Quote – “If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you”. I can’t say that I have ONE favorite quote of all time, but I heard this one recently right before a tough work-out and it really motivated me to push harder instead of just going through the motions. I think it translates to a lot of other areas of my life too, so it is a quote I am thinking of often these days.
Favorite Book-Go-Giver, Grit
What makes your heart race? Being unprepared for anything.
Organization or cause near to your heart-I have yet to figure this one out. Our family supports a number of causes and I haven’t been able to narrow it down to “the one” that I am most passionate about. But for now, the organization that I get the most joy from giving to is Best Buddies. I love their mission of intentional inclusion and making sure that all kids, regardless of ability level, feel the benefits of friendship, community and connection.
Favorite Food-This one is tough...It’s like asking a parent to pick their favorite child. I just can’t pick one favorite because it implies I love one more than the other. When in reality, it just depends on my mood. But I love chicken Parmesan, a good cut of steak served with mashed potatoes, popcorn served with M&M’s, cupcakes, frosted sugar cookies, dark chocolate peanut butter cups, and really all sweets unless it has coconut in it.
What keeps you up at night? Over analyzing situations; business development ideas; worrying about friends and family.
What is a belief you once held but no longer do? I used to think that I could never work out in the morning because I am not a “morning person,” but once I set a goal of getting in at least 3 workouts a week, I realized I had to get up before the rest of my family and just get it done if I wanted to succeed. And now, while I still can’t honestly say I enjoy getting up that early, I’ve proved to myself that I can, and I do enjoy the feeling of getting a work-out in at the beginning of the day.
