If you opened your own business, what would it be?

Self-employed as a photographer or a carpenter.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Self-esteem has been a huge struggle for me throughout my life. To my younger self I would say learn how to appreciate what you’ve accomplished, don’t let worries about the opinions of others stop you, and give yourself a break now and then.

Exceptional Skills-

Figuring out processes and problem solving

What makes you feel fulfilled?

I feel fulfilled when I complete or fix something significant. It could be the end of a home renovation, a move or even the successful start of a new job.

When asked to describe yourself, what’s the first word that pops into your mind?

Favorite Book-

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera

What makes your heart race?

Travel makes my heart race, I love living and being in places where the air smells different and everything feels different.

Organization or cause near to your heart-

Definitely the Young Women’s Resource Center!  But I am also a huge fan of Justice for Our Neighbors and Eat Greater Des Moines- both have amazing missions and innovative delivery.

What keeps you up at night?

We just started foster/ adoption classes. Keeping me awake at night is worry about whether we will be able to provide children in our home with the support and love that they need.

What is a belief you once held but no longer do? I had my first opportunity to work overseas right after University, an experience that opened my eyes to poverty. The shock was coming back to work in the US and realizing that in our “developed nation” too many Americans share the same fate.

What are you interested in connecting with other women about?

I love opportunities to collaborate and plan new ideas, projects and plans. Having a coffee and great conversation always makes me feel energized and ready to tackle the world.
