If you opened your own business, what would it be?

I would open a microfinance business. This combines my three passions of empowering women, community development and microfinance. My passion for microfinance started when I was a junior in college when I implemented a microfinance program in Bluefields, Nicaragua. There is a lot of opportunity to help those in our community who are underprivileged, and this would give me the opportunity to mentor women and build their business skills at the same time.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Do what is right for you and care less about what others think. I’ve learned a lot about this the last few years, and it has made me an even stronger person where I have learned to love who I am even more.

Exceptional Skills-

Driving a tractor, giving back as a volunteer and playing volleyball are two that not everyone may know about me. From a professional standpoint, my exceptional skills are building teams and proofing and editing.

What makes you feel fulfilled?

Helping others and doing what I can to make the world a better place one day at a time. Whether that means holding the door at the grocery store for a mom that has her hands full or supporting a friend in something that is important to them, there is always an opportunity to make a difference. And that makes my heart feel fulfilled.

When asked to describe yourself, what’s the first word that pops into your mind?

Favorite Book-

The Bible, as it guides my life and provides a great roadmap on how to be a leader.

What makes your heart race?

Adventure, especially zip lining or doing a ropes challenge course 75 feet up on the side of a mountain!

Organization or cause near to your heart-

I have so many that are near and dear to my heart! Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa would be the organization that is closest to my heart, as I have seen mentoring relationships developed that truly change lives. NAMI Iowa is another organization close to my heart, as our state and nation is in a mental health crisis and this organization is working to make changes.

What keeps you up at night?

How to make the greatest impact in the world each day and be a light to others.

What is a belief you once held but no longer do?

That you have to be married and have children to live the American dream life. I am empowered and living life surrounded by so many great people doing exactly what I want to do, and it’s so beautiful. I love living the life that I have created.

What are you interested in connecting with other women about?

I love to connect with other women on causes they are passionate about, as well as discussing our career paths to challenge and encourage each other. I cherish time to connect with other women and learn about their passions!
